all internet and welcome the part
up my design patterns video tutorial today
we're going to talk about the template method design pattern
it is a extremely easy design tired understanding by the end of this year
gonna completely understand it
like most these tutorials it's also contains certain just here to learn
about the template not the design pattern you're in the right place
and if you'd like to learn about all the design patterns refer to the link above
so let's get into it so what is the template method design pattern well it's
used to create a group of subclasses that have to execute
a similar group of methods and to implement it you create an abstract
class is going to contain a method called the template matter then if
you're not getting this don't worry about the Kotel totally fell UN as well
as the UML diagram that's coming up very quickly
so anyway you create the abstract classes going to contain a method called
the template method
and the template method contains a series method calls that
every subclass object will call however in certain situations the subclass
objects that are formed from this guy are gonna be over to override some other
method calls that don't work for
let's take a look at you male doctor basically what I want to do is to two
rows only use a fictional restaurant called the hoagie hut
and the people that work there called Sam which sculptors well though he hot
as decided to automate the process up creating sandwiches and they're gonna
replace all their sandwich sculptor so it's our job to make it all happen now
this guy right here
makes am which that is the template method and it's going to execute a whole
bunch of different methods
and hear those methods are cut by one at me add cheese add veggies
rapidly and give it to the customer and what we're gonna do as well implement
books now we want to make a sammich doesn't contain meat
right here we're gonna set this boolean value to false
the subclasses that's going to implement
this abstract class called hoagie and we're gonna over here saying that we
don't wanna at meat or veggies or cheese or what have you two are okay
and that's going to automatically void out olive the methods that are contained
template method called make sammich so it's getting the code and show you
exactly how to implement this time
okay so only had it once replace all the same which sculptures so what are some
ways that we can do that well first off we're gonna have to come in here and
start implementing our classes that are going to represent our sandwiches now
the first thing I'm gonna do here
is not going to be a good way to solve this problem but I'm gonna do it just so
that we know how to do it souls go in here
I would say all right we need to make Italian hoagies well the bad way to do
this is just a start bouncing around here
and start implementing exactly how we would want to make one of these
we could say something like make sandwich rate this method here
and then say something like cut bon add me
and all the code here is available under this video and you should definitely
check it out if you wanna completely understand how to implement this design
add that into bowls add call on demands
and then wrap though okie okay so no matter what type of girl you we make and
biochemists am much
submarine where we were for last everything was going to have a
kuttab on and wrap that thang up now these things however going to different
that's going to be one of the reasons why this design
here is not gonna work and then what we do is do something like public void cut
bon and then do something like system I'll
liner the hoagie is and we would implement all of these methods that are
defined up here
down here and it would in the end make itself an Italian hoagie
I think you see quite clearly why that is not a good idea because you have to
and duplicate a tonic code and it just doesn't make sense
however we have to also think about the problem of what happens whenever this
becomes a veggie hoagie
all of a sudden we are not going to be at me cheese and maybe not
condiments so what we do in that situation that's where the hook part
comes and I talked about previously
let's just get into this and fix it up and make it look away shirt so
change that back in one Italian hoagie then what we're going to do instead
is going to hoagy dot Java increase our
abstract class so we're gonna build all over hoagies from so
cisco public abstract last
bogey ans this is going to be are
template method and its declared as finally keep subclasses from changing
because we know how we want to make our sandwiches and we don't want
are same which stalker to have any import at all in regards to how to do so
so what we gonna do well we know every single one tomorrow he's going to have a
bond that's not for the customer to determine no we're not going to put the
meat and cheese right in their hand all around the head that way
and then what are we gonna do well we're gonna define whether our customer
once meet remember veggie hoagie is an auction
and words gonna put that there and then inside a bit if they do want me
we're gonna say well at the meet and we're gonna call
that not and then just so we don't get lost here
outside of our template method we're gonna start on and everything so let's
abstract Lloyd add me we're going to force them to implement this method with
the abstract term there
and then on top of that under here we're going to define Boolean
customer wants meet and we're going to provide a method that can be
overridden however doesn't need to be so the hoagie hut decides that most to
their submarines or going to contain meat
well it makes sense then for this to remain true and then allow all the
sunglasses to override it
if it is a true and this is referred to as a hawk
that's basically just use like I said before use wants override these they can
and whenever you're creating all these individual methods insider
here you gonna mark anything abstract where you wanna
force the user to override it and created as a hook whenever you want that
to totally be optional
and up to our User so now we have the basis of how this is going to be set up
we can command here and fill in all our other ok sir
options whatever you wanna call so we r say if customer once
cheese well then add cheese
just like that and then we're going to come down here just to keep everything
and through that abstract class in here change that offer case
and then change this to add cheese and then add another boolean value here
just for once and then type in cheese like that you're basically gonna do the
same thing for all the other potential
pieces of our submarine sandwich or a whole year we want to call it
so we're gonna say customer wants vegetables
and then come down here and say add vegetables
and then abstract add Vegeta bolts
and then right here customer wants vegetables
and then the final thing that's going to be an option is really come in there
and also ask the customer if they want condiments
where's that abstracts and on defense
and then our boolean value Rainier a smile on Scotland's
and they are then we can bounce appear and put in a definite
so raft the hoagie is going to be something
that definitely has to be done percent sorry purposes
and then outside of our template map but we're going to define what exactly cut
bonds gonna do
public void cut bon paste in system I'll though
hoagie is cut closer closer and their yes that's a method that's definitely
going to be calm
and then underneath so far Hawks here where we're going to define whether
these things are going to be at a turn onto our sandwich we're gonna put in our
and that's gonna be public void rap the Holy
and then in that situation we're gonna say rap though
okay I got that week file save that night and then this guy's basically set
ups and downs go into
a tally in hoagie and use it the proper way with our abstract class
so in that situation we're gonna go extends
are abstract class okay now whatcha gonna do well let's just get rid of all
this because now the abstract class is gonna handle making our sandwich
and we need to implement some on implemented methods for this guy
so there we are click on a and automatically everything's gonna pop
what scroll back up to the top and this has nothing to do with the template
method design pattern but I decided I'm gonna have everything
in regards to what's going to be on the sammich setup inside
a string a racquet so long me pepperoni cap
coehlo a.m. so this is going to be the basis
over a talent hoagie and then we're going to do the same sort of thing for
all the other ingredients that are gonna go on this okay
you know say cheese used in this situation is real simple
Grove alone got that in there make a mean here's a
veggies used let us tomatoes
onions should uppers and then finally
condiments news and that's going to be real simple as well we're just going to
oil manager case we have all of the things that are you know in sidebar
now we need to go into add me it's and make sure that everything is generated
so just cannot create a little message adding though
the not only use enhanced for statement so we're gonna go string
meet temporary holding cell for everything that's popped out over our
me used string a racquet system.out.print
we're gonna prenup me followed by space okay so now we pretty much have to do
exactly the same thing
for all these other methods inside here so
for and cheese bounce in their adding though cheese
men here we're gonna say cheese cheese used
and she's nine come down to the vegetable or ace that their
adding though veggies veggie and then here we got taken veggie
name and the last one and condiments for that matter
adding though condiments on-demand condiments use
in common there we go looks like that's all good
yeah no heirs so that is going to be the basis
are Italian hoagie so now we basically have two
I was gonna copy all is to save some time and jump over into
veggie hoagie this is going to be the guy that's dramatically different
paste electrode in there in a minute change this the veggie hoagie
and down here we don't have cheese on a Reggio gate
we don't have to meet on our video you but we are going to have the edges of
the isley as well as condiments
and then just to keep this me because it makes more sense in this situation
I need to override the customer wants me
and the customer wants cheese that's found over in who viewed our job to see
right here so I'm just gonna copy these guys and among our
override them in my veggie hoagie class that I have here
so instead I'm not taken false and then ima they've been false here
so overrode those now that's going to work properly and
for these guys right here at me mad she is well
I don't need them to do anything but I do need to implement them
so fun I was going to get rid of everything that is inside of them
and have them basically do nothing now we r we can do the same thing here
we are and then in the add vegetables par guess what
on up to do anything because I already have all those things to find up here
of course I could change alerts in the string race but I don't see any reason
to do that
sleep I'll save it goes guess what we're done with that so now all that's left
for us to do
is to create the sandwich sculptor this is going to be ridiculously easy
so we're in Sandwich sculptor we're in public static void main so it's time for
us to make ourselves some same watches
so min ago hoagie it's going to create a basic okie
and lets a customer
comes and it says that they want
an Italian hoagie when I we can guarantee it's going to get made the
right way so we're gonna go new
Italian okie like that and then to have it
create it presidio customer
and then make sandwich which is a call to the template now
that we define inside ol gaidar Java
let's take a look at it say makes am much there is it's going to create all
this stuff for us
that's all we need to do and then if we have in some other customer command
and this customer says I want a different type of movie
I want you to make me vegetarian only no problem just gonna men here
video gate who spot right now we are and then make sandwich
change thirty and Free File Save that actually
I know gonna print a little bit we're gonna fix at a second and there you can
oh yes cut adding the me blah blah and the cheese and so forth and so on
and then if we want to correct the spacing issue we just think you're sorta
in Providence let's figure out how to do it
makes the most sense to do it inside ok you know I job us let's jump in there
and what's one quick way we can do this we can create our souls Boolean
let's say after first condiment because we
have no idea weather meter what sort of things are going to go on here so
remark that is false know what ima do is insert
new lines to make sure that all this stuff is broken operate
so cut bond the man wanna do
is if they're is meet on the hoagie communal like this
and Mark this is true and then down here we going to the cheese partner this has
nothing to do with the template method
design pattern I'm just fixing out little bit of an issue here
in here I'm going to ruined and ask if
I've already paste and the meat part love this and if I did
gonna throw new liner print for a new line I can adjust
print print line but whatever and then after that
gonna pop this inner point this can be your own work for you know exactly what
I'm doing here
if you don't quite get it I'll save that in them to do the same thing here
and do the same thing I can imagine somebody coming in or Yahoo login just
getting compliments but I guess it's a possibility
and then we r
save that then jump back over in the same which sculptured
then we can bounce over here throw in a print line between each of these guns
and execute it not sure perfectly and there you can see it worked perfectly
prints out cut though he adds all the me adds the cheese as the veggies that the
condiments wraps the Holy
and on here in this situation when are we don't have meat and cheese
just prints out veggies and condiments and wraps at Aggie so
there is the template method designed matter
leave any questions or comments below the last the next on *** *** Mirror Frame Pt. 1: Design, Half-Laps, Assembly, & Curves - YouTube !!! English English
- On today's show we're gonna take a little time for some
personal reflection as we build this simple, elegant mirror.
The design of our mirror frame is pretty straightforward
but let me show you a couple of details I really like.
First off, the side piece. It goes all the way to the top.
Now we've got that nice, graceful curve in the top rail
but it continues right on through that side piece,
through the end grain, and gives it a nice,
smooth, continuous look.
If you look between each piece
you'll see there's a little V groove there.
Now that V groove is just a optional detail.
If you don't like it you don't have to put it there.
But I think it gives the piece a little bit more visual
interest, it makes each individual part of the frame
pop a little bit more.
And we're gonna do a finishing process later
with a glaze that's gonna enhance that even more.
The other thing is we've got half-lap joints here.
This particular design I think really calls for half-laps.
You can certainly do a mortise and tenon joint
if you wanted to, but half-laps are pretty darn easy
and they're very strong.
Certainly adequate for a frame like this.
The wood itself here is a figured maple.
We're gonna do a staining process on it,
and normally I don't stain my projects, especially
for ones that are made from really expensive wood.
But this is going into my bathroom, and it has to
match the cabinets, or at least come close to
matching the cabinets that are already there.
So, stained it is.
We've got a nice lacquer finish,
I'll show you how I applied that.
And at this point we need to go back in time a little bit,
jump into the bathroom and see if we can't figure out
the proper measurements using the wall itself in the space
so we know exactly what we're doing with the project parts.
All right, so, let's head to the bathroom.
I never thought I'd say that on the show.
So welcome to the Spagnuolo bathroom,
and this is the wall where the mirror needs to go.
Previously the mirror that was there
was one of those frameless mirrors,
and it spanned from wall to wall.
So what we want to do now is make it a little bit
more elegant by providing a nice wooden frame
that fits the space fairly well.
So, the way I'm gonna do this is using blue tape and a
tape measure to mark the locations, get the overall size,
and figure out what the size of parts will be.
Blue tape is nice because you can put it on the wall
and then rip it right off and not affect the paint.
I'm gonna try and keep in mind the center line here
and make sure that everything is equally distant
from that center point, but I'm just gonna start putting
pieces of tape in to represent what I think looks good.
So as you can see there's a lot of back and forth there,
and yes, we're wasting some tape,
but it's certainly cheaper than wasting wood.
So as the layout is on the wall we can kind of get a feel
for if I'm hitting my target or not.
I really just want something that's nicely balanced between
the lights at the top and the top of the surface down here.
And I think I've hit that.
So we can use what we have here to take measurements,
and if we're close to a whole number, let's just use
the whole number, we have some wiggle room here.
So, my bottom here, if I take a look at that.
It's about four inches, little less than four.
And the side is three.
And I'll tell you what, even though that's at four
I think I'd be perfectly happy making that three
so that it's consistent, and the bottom will be
three inches wide, and the side will be three inches wide.
At the top remember we've got this peak for the curve there
so I'm thinking maybe at its tallest point it would be
four inches, and as it tapers down, curves down
we can bring it down to three inches,
and whatever that curve happens to be to connect those lines
is whatever it is.
Now for the actual mirror dimensions we'll just take a
measurement and see how close we are to a round number.
I've got about
there, which is pretty good.
And here I've got about
to the peak.
We'll just write all these numbers down
and now we can head into the shop
and actually start to draw this out in a full size drawing.
All I need now is my trusty drywall square, a pencil,
and a piece of quarter inch plywood to do the drawing on.
I'm really pleased with the way that this looks.
It's got a nice simple elegance to it.
The proportions look good to my eye
and I think it's gonna look really nice in the bathroom.
Speaking of proportions, a lot of time when you design
a piece like this you should be thinking about
either whole number proportions, or the golden ratio,
if you've heard of that,
to help you decide on your relative lengths.
In this case I'm kind of abandoning that
because I want this to fit in a very specific location
for a very specific purpose.
So if I don't have some theoretical standard
achieved with this piece, I don't really care.
I just want to make sure it's wide enough and
tall enough to look good in the space that it's going in.
So in this case, functionality for me
trumps a traditional theoretical design number.
The other thing we should probably think about now,
which you might think is a little early to talk about,
and that's the mirror.
We need to know what size the mirror should be cut to.
If you cut the stuff yourself, good on you.
I don't really mess with glass too much,
so I'm gonna have a local place cut it for me.
I'm going with quarter inch thick glass,
so it's not really gonna warp or distort or anything.
And we want to cut it an inch wider and taller
than the dimensions of this interior space
because we're gonna cut a nice rabbet around the perimeter
and that's gonna give us the size that we need.
So for me that's
and a quarter tall, and
So I just called a local glass company and said,
"Hey, here's the measurements."
The key is I wanna make sure I have that glass in the shop
before I finalize this internal cut on the frame.
So I've got a little work to do before we get to that point
and it's a good time to place that order.
If you've ever done a project with half-laps you know that
it's a real pain in the butt to glue those things together,
but we can make some choices now that will
actually make the glue up a whole lot easier.
So, cut your parts a
than the plans call for, and you'll see why
a little bit later when it comes time for clamping.
All right, so, let's start rough cutting some wood.
I like to use the bandsaw for ripping rough stock.
It's much safer than the table saw,
and I'm not worried about the cut quality at this point.
The chop saw is an excellent tool
for rough cutting to length.
Now everything is milled to final dimension
according to the plans.
With regard to thickness the plans call for
of an inch
but if you can keep your stock thicker, go for it.
Heavily figured maple is prone to tearout but the
segmented head in the planer really does a nice job.
Remember to cut these pieces a
So that's three and a 16th for the sides and bottom,
and four and a
At the chop saw I use a stop block to make sure
that the sides, and the top and bottom pieces
are cut to their respective lengths.
Now once everything is milled up
it's a good idea to lay out your parts
and get a feel for how these half-laps are gonna lay out.
I've got my sides here, the top and the bottom,
and we'll do one top joint and one bottom joint
just to explain what's happening.
Here's my top left joint, and let's look at the half-laps.
The half-lap is gonna take away half of the material
on the underside of the side piece, somewhere like this.
And then we're gonna remove this material
from the top side of the top piece.
Something like that, so when they nest together
the side piece just runs all the way through.
Our bottom half-lap is pretty much the same thing.
The side is gonna travel all the way down
and it's gonna overlap the bottom piece.
I like to dummy proof the process by making pencil marks
that indicate where my cuts will be.
I then use a cutting gauge to slice the grain
and firmly establish my shoulder lines.
This cut line not only helps me with setting up the tools
but it ensures a tearout-free cut.
There are a lot of different ways that you can cut half-laps
but one of my favorite is to use
the table saw with the dado stack.
I've got my stack set to
of an inch in width
and I'm just gonna use the miter gauge with the fence
to line everything up and batch out these cuts.
So the blade is set to just under
of an inch.
We're gonna dial that in second.
The first thing I wanna dial in is the fence position.
We'll start with our three inch shoulder cuts here.
Let's put the work piece down
and try to get everything lined up.
I really just wanna get that cut line lined up
pretty close with the outer tooth of the dado stack.
You can see how close we got, so I'm just gonna
nudge the fence until we are right on that cut line.
That's about as good as it's gonna get,
so now I can remove the rest of this half-lap
and we can address the blade height
to get the perfect-fitting half-lap.
Now if we take our two test half-laps
and put them together on a nice flat surface
we can really see what's going on here.
All right, there's a nice lip,
so I definitely undercut it, that was intentional,
and now I can just sneak up on the fit.
Keep in mind though we have to be extra careful
about high we raise that blade,
because the effect is times two, because we're gonna
remove stock from this piece and from this piece,
so be very, very cautious with your adjustments.
And after a couple rounds of adjustments,
should have something like this.
Mine are just a little bit proud.
I'm okay with that because I have ways
to finesse the face of this joint.
But boy, that is-- that's darn close.
Now we can cut the rest of the three inch half-laps.
Now we can adjust the fence for the four inch half-lap
and for this one we're gonna leave the blade exactly
where it is in terms of height, it's already dialed in.
All we need to do is move this fence.
Now you want to examine all four of your joints
and just make sure everything fits together
the way you want it to.
You should have a pretty gap-free joint up here.
The underside is a little bit less important because
you're not gonna see it, but it should be nice and flush.
Now, feel with your fingers.
If you followed my instructions you'll notice
a little bit of a discrepancy here.
The side piece sits proud,
I feel a little bit of a lip here.
And the same thing with the top piece,
it's a little bit proud of this end grain.
That is absolutely intentional and the reason is when
we clamp this together, you'll see this in a little bit,
we need some pressure that's gonna bring it in
and close up these two shoulder areas here.
So a built-in way to do that is to leave a little bit of
extra stock that we can plane away later,
and that's gonna help us with clamping.
The other thing to look at is to
make sure everything is nice and flush.
If you find that the pieces are just a little bit proud of
one another because there's a little too much material here
at this point, if it's a tiny amount, you're probably
better off at the workbench than at the table saw.
A surface like this right off of the dado blade
can actually be a little bit rough.
You're gonna have some high spots, some low spots.
So just using a block plane, or in this case
I've got a rabbeting block plane where the blade
goes all the way to the outside of the body.
You can take a couple of passes
and just remove those high points.
Watch out towards the end, you don't want to tear out
so you might kind of, give yourself
a little bit of relief there, just in case.
Try to take even passes across the surface.
Now if it takes anything more than just a couple of passes
you probably do wanna go back to the table saw.
This is only for the purposes of finessing the fit.
So a couple of passes, you can see we're nice and smooth now
and this should fit perfectly.
The next thing I wanna do is add a little design detail.
This is something that's completely optional so you
don't have to do it if you don't like the way it looks
but I do like the way it looks, so what I'm gonna do
is put a little chamfer on the inside edge
so when these two pieces meet, there's actually
gonna be a slight gap created between there.
When we do the finishing later,
and you'll see when we start to use the glaze,
you'll see how that will actually help us.
But you may not like it, you may just want a
totally flush fit here, so ignore it if you don't like it,
but let me show you how I do it with a block plane.
What I'll do is just put a light chamfer on this inside edge
and this is one of my side pieces here.
And I'm basically just gonna count the strokes.
If I keep that number consistent I should have
the same chamfer on all of my pieces.
So that's about what I'm going for,
just a nice, light chamfer.
And at this point these are sort of sharp edges.
I just wanna knock them down a little bit
paper and soften it up.
Our top and bottom pieces also need their inside edge done
but before we do that we're gonna do the shoulder.
The easiest way I know to do this
is to just approach it from each side.
If I go all the way I'll definitely get some tearout there
so let's just try to avoid it.
Even with a sharp blade those end grain cuts can be a little
bit rough, so I like to have a little stick, basically.
This is just a little piece of MDF
something or other schmutz that I have in my shop,
and I put a little piece of sandpaper on it,
and it works as a little, flat sanding implement like this
that's perfect for small details.
And I can use this to smooth everything out.
Only after both of these ends are done
will I go and do the long grain.
If I do have any tearout this should take care of it.
You might be wondering, why not just use
a router to do an operation like this?
Well, first of all, getting the end grain parts done,
that's gonna be a little tricky with a router bit
because the bit and the little screw that holds the
bearing in place is gonna wanna make contact,
so you don't have much room to play there.
And if I'm gonna use my block plane to do that
I may as well just quickly get it done,
and now I don't have to set up a router bit.
And frankly with one frame it's just as
easy and quick to do it with a block plane.
Sometimes it's just fun to use hand tools
and to incorporate them into your work
when you can, when it makes sense.
It's very gratifying, and it puts a little extra
love into the project, there's nothing wrong with that.
All right now for the fun part, we can do the assembly.
This glue up is gonna take a little bit of strategy
and some forethought, so we're gonna have four big clamps.
I'm gonna use my parallel clamps,
but there are other types of clamps--
pipe clamps would work for this to--
to apply pressure from all directions
to close everything up.
But we also need pressure at
each and every one of those half-lap joints,
kind of pinching it and sandwiching it together,
so I'm gonna use three clamps per joint
and I've got all these little small clamps for that.
And because we don't wanna dent the wood
and it's nice to have something to spread out the pressure,
I've got a couple pieces of scrap cut
that we'll use as cauls to apply pressure.
And I'm gonna use a long set glue,
basically it's a Titebond Extend, just gives me
a little more working time for something like this.
All right, let's get to it.
Each joint gets a generous amount of glue.
And look at how much long grain glue surface
we have to work with.
No wonder these joints are so strong.
Now I'll add a little bit of pressure,
and then bring in the second set of clamps.
If you look closely you can see that the
16th of an inch overage ensures a nice, tight shoulder.
Now I'll loosen and retighten all the clamps
just to make sure that everything is hitting home.
At each corner I'll drop in a caul
and add the small clamps.
Now you might think that the joint is tight,
but what what happens when we apply pressure.
That squeeze out tells us that we're making good contact.
Of course you want to check for square as always,
but if your half-lap shoulders are nice and square
there really shouldn't be much to worry about.
After a few hours I can remove the frame from the clamps.
I've definitely got some cleanup to do on the frame
but before I do the fine stuff
I'm just gonna start with a sanding block
and remove any of the big offending glue squeeze out
that might be dried on the surface.
Now let's talk about the curve on the top of the frame.
If you're just making one of these you're probably
better off taking your measurements,
kind of like we did on the drawing,
and using a bent piece of wood or drawing bow
to make the curve right on the frame, cut it,
and then finesse it so it's nice and smooth.
If it's a one-off project that's all you need to do
but if you're building multiples like I am,
I'm actually building two of these,
and if you think you might be building one in the future,
it's a good idea to get a template, finesse that template
and then use the template to transfer the marks
to the other pieces.
What I'm gonna do is cut out of this actual drawing,
we're gonna cut this top piece out, and then
I'll have a template to store in the shop for future use.
I use the bandsaw to cut the rough curve.
And then use a block plane to work down to my line.
Of course, a flexible sanding strip finishes it off nicely.
Now with my template I can just drop it on
while my frame's here. Make sure it's centered.
You pretty much line it up by eye
if it doesn't reach all the way to the ends.
Now to cut the curve I'm gonna use the bandsaw
but because I've got a full size frame here
it just gets a little unwieldy,
so I've got two roller stands set up
and a piece of plywood sitting on top of it.
It's not super stable, but it's gonna get the job done
just giving me a little bit of extra outfeed support
so I can focus my attention on making sure
I don't go over my line.
Now I'm just gonna attach the template
to the work piece with some double sided tape.
You might find it as turner's tape, but
it's a nice pressure sensitive,
really sticky double-sided tape.
Once the template is where you want it,
put down the pressure.
I'm just gonna flip this guy upside down
and we'll pinch it between the dogs here.
And my router is outfitted with a flush trim spiral bit.
I like the spiral action on this because the sheer cut
gives me a nice clear cut, even on this really figured wood.
I've got a little double bearing down here
that's gonna ride up against the template,
and this should give me nice, clean results.
Anything the router wasn't able to get,
I can just use my rasp to continue on, and I just have
this little piece at the end that needs to be done.
And for the rest of it I'll just use
my flexible sanding strip.
Now of course you'll remember we left these parts
a little bit extra wide to help us with the clamping.
Well, now it's time to fix that.
It should just be a little bit proud of the end grain
on both sides so what we need to do is make some
clean up passes on both the sides and the bottom,
just to make sure it's nice and flush.
I've got my jack plane here setup
and I specifically have my
This is a bevel-up plane,
so if the bevel is a little bit more severe like that
it's actually going to be a little kinder to us
on a figured wood like this.
If you have a real low bevel angle,
you might actually end up with quite a bit of tearout.
So you do need to be careful.
Other things you could do, you could probably
set your jointer for a really, really light pass
but you have to be careful, because once
you get to the end of the pass you're gonna hit
the end grain of the other part of the half-lap and you can
snap that right out of there, that can be problematic.
So if you do that, be very careful about it.
But I think a hand plane is probably the safest bet here.
Once you're able to get a nice clean shaving
all the way across and you're even at both ends,
then you should be good to go.
And I'll do the same treatment
for the bottom and the other side.
All right, that's looking pretty good.
Now I'm not quite ready to cut the rabbet
because I'd like to do a little bit of preliminary sanding,
and plus my glass isn't here yet.
The sanding we're gonna do is just gonna
smooth everything out, and if you think about it,
we still have to do a routing operation,
and whenever you run that router on the surface
you have a chance of denting or scratching the material
so if you sand it down to
grit at this point
and then you have a router operation to do,
you might have to wind up sanding again later.
So, at this point we'll do some preliminary sanding
but we won't go all the way to our final grit.

After showing you my DIY decoden box in one of my past videos,
a lot of you requested me to do some decoden phone case designs
so that’s what I’m making in this video!
The things you will need are:
some decoden cream or white silicone caulk
some plain white or transparent phone cases
and lots of cabochons
All of these are from an online store I found recently called sophieandtoffee.com
and they have lots and lots of different cabochon designs at a very affordable price
They ship internationally, so if you don’t know where to buy cabochons this is an excellent choice
I will leave a link in the description box
with a discount of
You will also need a decoden sauce for one of the designs.
For the first design I started placing the cabochons on the phone case
until I was happy with the design
And I took a picture with my phone
Then I placed a piping tip on the decoden cream tube
and started decorating my phone case.
Once I covered all the surface
I placed my cabochons using the picture I took before as a guide
Finally I also placed some pearls here and there
I let it dry for
hours and that’s it!
For the second design, start the same way
placing your cabochons on the case to make the design you want
Then, use the decoden sauce to make a dripping design underneath the cabochons.
I also placed some little pearls with the help of some tweezers
Let it dry for
As you see it dries darker
I placed a little bit of decocream with the help of a piping bag
then placed my cabochons the same way as before
and my design is finished!
I think this design is really cute without being too over the top.
For the last one I decided to incorporate a mirror in the design.
And this time I used regular silicone caulk because I ran out of the decoden cream.
So first, I placed my mirror and cabochons on the phone case until I was happy with the design.
Then I glued the mirror to the case with strong glue
and with the help of a piping bag I decorated the case with the cream, starting around the mirror
Finally I placed my cabochons and some pearls and let it dry
!! I always wanted a phone case with a mirror on it and I’m really happy with how this one turned out!
So I hope you liked my take on decoden phone cases
hopefully I could inspire you to make your own designs
and don’t forget to use your imagination to make them look exactly like you want
If you have any video request leave it in the comment section
and I will try my best to make it happen

hey buddy anime back from reading my
intermediate microeconomics midterm which is the reason why I am Not really
talked to rosa me
but I am back and I N
heck with them were designed by Charles I said I'm gonna be my last but I loved
it I'm panels because they're so awesome so
we're back for more today designed Pedaru be looking and got the template
and Om definition for N arm
people really interchange between tempting but the patter and temper
om to the reactor the same thing service
see what we get would be has see well attempting method contains
met this guy out in a min algorithm one or more of the algorithm steps can be
overridden by subclasses
to allow different behaviors while ensuring that the over
arching algorithm still followed so the overarching algorithm
is a step series of steps so it's a arm
within those steps the you love them differ between two subclasses
so I see step 5: differs well in this case we will %uh
the algorithm override or that the method be overwritten by
subclasses and by doing so they can arm
create their own behaviors and that is basically the fifth for the
done tempting method pattern
itself very simple pattern and arm
it relies heavily upon
on and hair tent and abstract Rapids
sup depend on the language and arm which is for C sharp so it is
so this take a look at the diagram that wikipedia has provided
well here is that recross they define primitive operations which is
some methods and then they have at
template method which basically calls
other methods and Dom someone these methods are overwritten
by the concrete class the operation one is over and copper into and do something
because they differ between each country cross now you can have many many country
to basically you have omitted and that is going to call
other methods and if there's anything
anything similar will be called from that your class anything different week
off from the concrete cross
so bad is it girls done
now I'm skinning through doings ample and %ah mick is one prime example would
arm making a pizza making different a pizza could be different
so one step could differ from another
to hear I have already read some papers in code and I'll go through them with
basic need both the have two crosses me by Peter Beattie Peter
which is pretty much topics battery and Dom make pizza
well veggie pizza not necessarily a vegetarian pizza is just loaded with
veggie toppings so a frenzy confused when I was younger so
okay so make keep that basically is
om cause a series of steps a sousa methods
to make the Peter me same thing with a meat lover
however they only differ is add me topping and veggie toppings
now a public thing oh my god
this is the template met the right now yeah
and it is but we have to make some smart peaks
and I'm corrections as you can see there are a lot of ways in abstract it and you
save on a call to kitchen to actually take a look at the methadone
already made always just works the dough
no makin to circle I did not call that so hmm and Scott me
go on be both at tomato sauce so
tomato sauce and down here same thing
axes exactly the same thing again and then
the only thing differs is that bad need topping and Betty toppings
Cadbury Pranav different things now McCann best you can be
hey while falling to tempt the pattern we should crazy
an abstract class our poll everything at the same
up into it and you are indeed correct so let's go ahead and
add I'll not a reference not at a reference
an item we'll call it
keep top God I think I have some sort of special food
kilometer over up is the food anyways
I'm this is going to be something abstract and
there we go we're going to do any work in a copy
and then what we're gonna do is making inherit from Peter
and we do the exact same thing with me lover we are making her for pizza
and we do meet the code that was redundant
right one step down so what's next
well the state's that armed abstract are a bit sorry
the template method pattern states that their
steps there at the same and in our example it is
the fees met its but there are methods there are
difference down now a sad different behaviors
and in this example it would be
add toppings however big this thing called States one says
add me topping get a wanted ad veggie toppings
which known its to detailed arm
we don't care about the tech topics you adding essentially just just adding
so what do we do we just make it om something
we make them both in common so then we can find an abstract method
here we will to find after method at talking now
because they have different orientations in both the surpasses
and but the require that the
they require that the after class can known saying hey
I have a medical at topping but I love my concrete classes
override me here we were at public
public abstracts a boy he
arraign so now that we have that done
we're gonna get an error because hey which internet the name here
delete them correction in our same okay
we can now upstate more code we can move is even higher
up the food chain
here we would just go straight to you Peter
and now this looks exactly like abstract method actor
abstract method to that template method pata I apologize I'm not using these
so we have too tempting method which states that a No
typing method basically cause other methods within the class
and the a cause my
is wrong with my mouse right
and it says okay I a few comment these are the same and methods that are
different for abstract
and this is what does this is weekend after class
to find in that ship has to find the magic last defined in the concrete
here we will %uh the concrete classes
decide the implementation okay same thing looks
getting go now and that actually make it Brian
so we will have to a meat lover pizza
meat lover My Little Pony August anyways my friend into my little pony:
and Dom yet he the brownie you know what i'm talking about. they don't worry
it's just some TV show that is aimed towards kids my friends watch it so
I'm not going to judge them be good at what they like for had
is kind of a sometimes sewing defined 01 pizza
on veggie pizza because new
so what we can do well we're gonna say
well world My Little Pony the om
and we will call to make pizza
and they know print out the steps in order to make the meet the pizza
they were signed to new reference I
come see to pizza as a man the peten
its again December make a vegetarian Peter
are not budgetary very a veggie pizza and on there were gonna carbon make
them India consul dog brake line
and I know you're probably reading hey arm know you should read in caps let
your methods but Tom this is just a quick tutorial
arm a course different teams are across different
I'll different code so I'm you make your
you make your changes where necessary I'm not gonna word too much about
object-oriented programming are printables
but down by do highly recommend the fold them
I am rekey okay
the selected to run it with
hopes shipment the
changed where is out about the override
for everything looks good now gain
so we can see that the overarching algorithm stays consistent
we work the dough from the top work to do on the bottom
at tomato sauce at middle-sized at she said she's but then we add
different toppings so this is his CV
it for the tempting method patter
arm it very simple and it's very easy to use and
it's also very good at pattern my opinion not as well known and not as
or not as commonly talk during post-secondary
sewing on this is something I'll be nice for me to learn to you
and I hope in God is our guys and I will see everyone next time
well guys n girls don't need to be sexist had and
of the everyone next time hope you enjoyed *** *** Mirror Blocks pattern tuturial, and how to use them together (part 1) - YouTube !!!
